Emperor's Barrel Palio

The Emperor's Barrel Palio is held in memory of Henry VII of Luxembourg, Holy Roman Emperor, whose remains rested in Suvereto between 1313 and 1315 before being transferred to Pisa.
Since 1994 this race has been held at night, offering a particularly evocative spectacle that draws thousands of visitors and tourists every year. Qualifying rounds and finals take place through the lit streets of the historic centre, creating a unique atmosphere that combines sport, history and tradition.
The event is one of the most anticipated of Suvereto's summer and an important opportunity to promote the village's historic and cultural heritage.
